Back in October I had a work trip to Kuala Lumpur it’s not a destination that I had been to before & I specifically bid for it as I wanted to bring Simon somewhere with me. I had been asking crew destinations they’d recommend & Kuala Lumpur kept coming out on top & as it’s a 5 day trip so it’s perfect to bring someone on it, so we packed our bags, I reported for work & Simon relaxed in the lounge at Heathrow ahead of the 14 hour flight. I’d picked up a few tips & recommendations from crew (they always know the best places to go) so landing in the early evening we quickly showered & headed out for some Malaysian street food ahead of our 24 hours in Kuala Lumpur.
One of the many things that we were excited to try out was the street food, now normally I’d be hesitant to eating any street food but this is totally different to what I expected. A crazy street with all the hustle & bustle it’s a tad overwhelming with so many places to go to but it’s also brilliant, we settled on one place & were quickly seated surrounded by large local families & fellow tourists. Placing our order we were so hungry & oh my the amount of food that arrived & it was all delicious, packed full of flavour & freshness we sat there all evening people watching & tasting so many wonderful dishes.
After a full night sleep we were awake & out the following morning, with pastries & coffee from the bakery opposite our hotel we jumped in a local taxi to take us to our first stop, Batu Caves (tip- local taxis are so much cheaper that hotel ones, I downloaded the local version of Uber & would recommend you to do so.) The iconic steps had been painted in bold colours that made them more attracting but oh boy was it tough climbing up them, with the humidity & all the monkeys along the way. Yes that’s right the caves have a lot of monkeys that live their & give them food & they are your best friend.
After trekking back down the stairs I ordered a taxi to our next stop Thean Hou Temples, one of the largest & oldest temples in Southeast Asia it’s a beautiful place to visit & also very tranquil. A 6 tier temple we walked around & captured some fantastic views of the city & enjoyed a moment taking it all in.
After a great day that was jam packed, colourful with so many fantastic sights to see we dressed up & headed out for some much deserved cocktails. With all of the crew we jumped into a taxi & took the lift up a ridiculous amount of floors for a view that overlooked the iconic ‘Petronas Twin Towers’ that are the tallest twin towers in the world & definitely something to see. Enjoying some cocktails with plenty of laughter it’s safe to say we were getting the late night munchies, I swapped my high heels for sandals & we wondered back for some delicious street food, it’s honestly that good & a highlight of the trip.
It was such a great trip & definitely one of my favourites that I have done so far & what an amazing perk being able to take Simon with me & explore a new place together. AA x
