5 New Podcasts To Listen To

By February 11, 2019Lifestyle, Uncategorized

I’m not great with sitting in silence, when I’m working on the blog & sitting down at my laptop I will usually have the TV on in the background, when I’m driving the commute to Heathrow for work I will have a number of podcasts downloaded ready, it’s safe to say I’ve become a bit of a podcast addict. So I think it’s only fair that I  share my addiction with you all & share 5 new podcasts that I’m currently subscribed to & that I think you should listen to.

The reason for my addiction, there are so many good podcasts out there now to enjoy. My boyfriend Simon listens to numerous sporting podcasts, after listening to a few of Fearne Cotton’s podcast ‘Happy Place’ I have now got my mum hooked on them & I came across a crazy Australian crime podcast that had me & my best friend hooked.

Table Manners: One of my absolute favourites that makes my mouth water as I listen. It’s a combination of two simple ingredients, the balance of a dinner party & an interview. Singer Jessie Ware co-hosts it with her mother in their kitchen; they cook up what always sounds like a delicious dinner & enjoy it with a celebrity friend from Ed Sheeron, Sir Paul Smith & plenty more in a casual setting. It’s funny, it’s heartwarming, & it’s makes me want to host a big family meal with amazing food & plenty of laughter.

The Teacher’s Pet: This podcast received over 28 million downloads, it took Australia by storm & then swept worldwide. An investigation of the probable murder of Lynette Dawson, a mother-of-two, who hasn’t been seen or heard from since 1982, she simply disappeared & there was very little police investigation done at the time. The dark story unfolds against Sydney’s Northern beaches, a tragic tale involving a star footballer, his twisted relationship with his twin brother, his teenage lover & a devoted wife who vanishes. You will be hooked & in complete shock that this story has gone undetected for so long.

The High Low: I have been listening to this podcast since it’s launch & regularly tell friends to download it. Hosted by journalists Pandora Sykes & Dolly Alderton who have a warm honest friendship that you want to be apart of. It’s a weekly conversational-style podcast featuring the duo’s acute & witty takes on that week’s current affairs & pop culture. Sharing stories that have gone completely under my radar that are totally fascinating  as well as book recommendations, their latest new TV watches that they are hooked on & occasional “author special” interviews.

Armchair Expert: Actor Dax Shepard manages to get super-famous friends to appear on his podcast, from Ellen DeGeneres & Ashton Kutcher. I’d heard a great review of this podcast from an episode of ‘The High Low’ so I had to give it a listen & I was so unique to any other celeb-interview podcast I have listened to before. The mood is very relaxed & host Dax brings out the best in his guests with a genuinely open manner. He want’s to get to the nitty gritty of their personalities, what makes them tick. It’s an eye-opening podcast that will make you rethink stereotypes of the vain Hollywood personality.

Caliphate: This is not my usual podcast but one I found fascinating given our current state of affairs when it comes to terrorism. Rukmini Callimachi, who covers terrorism for The New York Times, has one simple question, who are ISIS? The podcast offers a fascinating & startlingly up-close exploration of ISIS, illuminating how the Islamic State operates, targets, & radicalises new recruits. The results of this 10 episode podcast are gripping, disturbing & ferociously addictive.
