Spot of Lunch
It’s a fact your concentration is better when you have eaten, so with a full afternoon booked to explore Selfridge’s Exchange Square, in Manchester City Centre, with make-up consultations, shopping & a personal shopper appointment planned I definitely needed a full stomach to start on. Heading to San Carlo Gran Cafe located on the ground floor for some lunch was just what we needed having had a crazy morning & not eaten my boyfriend & I was ridiculously hungry. The decor was to my style with the minimal powder blue & white furnishings, marble table tops & the statement low lamp shades.
Luckily we didn’t have to wait long & a platter of a selection of warm home made bread, dips & olives arrived at our table as the perfect appetiser along with my delicious Pimms cocktail, I’d seemed rude not to indulge in a cocktail with such a fun afternoon ahead of me. With only crumbs left on the plate, (homemade bread is simply the best.) Our mains swiftly arrived & one thing I can guarantee is that you get more than what you pay for, I was so happy with my food, you know when you just simply enjoy eating every mouthful. My salad was full of chicken, mozzarella, avocado it was too much actually, along with my ridiculously large portion of sweet potato fries that were honestly some of the best I’d had I couldn’t even finish the bowl I was so full. My boyfriend’s order of burger with the full works seemed to have definitely hit the spot for him as it was gone pretty quickly but it was just what we needed, tasty, flavoured lunch that definitely filled us up & had us ready to explore the rest of Selfridge’s.
When it comes to make-up & beauty well then Selfridge’s has you covered I mean they stock such an array of versatile brands you can shop endless products, it’s a beauty haven that’s for sure. So after a delicious lunch I headed out & picked up a few pieces along the way having needed a new candle I popped into Jo Malone, my boyfriend also wanted a new aftershave so he tried on numerous different samples until he chose a Tom Ford one which I might be borrowing as it smelled so good!
One thing I do love about beauty halls is that there is more than likely going to be a brand in there that you may have never shopped with before or maybe even heard off, so it’s a great way to see what else is out there on the market. For me, I had heard a few years ago that Christian Louboutin had extended his fashion empire & was now stepping his fashionable shoes into the beauty world where he first launched a nail polish collection but it was not a brand I had used. With this in mind, I headed to the striking Louboutin counter for a beauty consultation & to try out their products.
The collection has been building over the years first with nail polish, then lipsticks & the latest is 4 eye products, full face products such as foundation, bronzer etc are still to be launched & no one knows when it will be as everything is kept very quiet at Loubouin HQ. Probably most striking about the products is their packaging, they are very much influenced by his Egyptian heritage & they are bold. I always like to use a liner on my eyes & a bold lip so this is what we decided upon, using his signature red on the lips for a matte finish that lasted all night trust me, on my eyes we kept the liner but went heavier. I’m always on the hunt for the perfect mascara & this one was certainly up there, it was black, it separated my lashes thanks to the brush that helped extended & give my eye lashes a full look. It was the perfect look for a night out & with a dash of colour on my nails it was the last finishing touch to my look.
With my make-up complete, I headed on up to explore the women’s floor before heading into personal shopping. It is so easy to get lost exploring all the array of brands & clothing that are available, I always head to the top floor first as here I can pick up any basic pieces I need from Topshop, All Saints for their t-shirts or one of my favourites COS for the simple but classic shapes that I could live in every day. If I’m wanting to splurge or have a specific event in mind well then I head on down to the Women’s designer floor where quite simply the list is endless & anything you need you will find, from Victoria Beckham, Balmain, Max Mara, Mara Hoffmann, Gucci, the list goes on.
With a specific event in mind, my best friend’s hen party I wanted a dress for the evening but was open to some options as I didn’t have anything specific in mind & this is where the Personal Shopper is the ideal solution. You can email or call up to book an appointment & it could be for anything! Need some new dark jeans for Autumn they will select you an array to try on, attending a Winter wedding, they will bring you a mix of pieces to try on & the best bit is that most of the time they bring you pieces you may not have considered wearing but you simply love it.
I loved this as the suites are perfect, spacious so you can bring your mum or friends along, with your selection ready to go you can have fun trying your clothes on because trust me I did, I didn’t want to leave! When trying on the pieces you can pick up shoes & accessories to help you complete your outfit, it’s the ideal environment to relax, enjoy the experience & walk away with something that you absolutely love.
