When it comes to Manchester I do have a soft spot for the city. I have grown up visiting for numerous reasons from shopping trips with my mum, concerts with friends, living in the city for 3 years during University. My girlfriends still live there plus my boyfriend is from Manchester as I am so frequently told. But it is a city that is regularly changing with new bars, restaurants, shops & hotels popping up every time I visit.
So for my recent visit where I spent ‘An Afternoon With Selfridges’ it was a jam packed afternoon as you can see from my post & to be honest I was exhausted so I was so happy to be staying over for the night & even better at King Street Hotel, in Manchester city centre. Having stayed in one of their sister properties ‘Great John Street’ hotel previously, I knew I was in for a treat & I wasn’t disappointed.
I love staying in hotels especially when they are as wow as King Street Townhouse, opening the door it was hard not to be impressed with our suite, with the full wall of windows with a stunning view over Manchester. It was light & spacious with touches of being cosy that really don’t make you want to leave, I got pretty relaxed, trust me. With an impressive bathroom that I am hoping to pretty much replicate in our own home, the colour scheme & tiles ticked all the boxes. The show piece really though, apart from the large tranquil bathroom, living room with its library & ridiculously large bed was the bath tub in the bedroom, oh yes a tub at the foot of the bed with a backdrop of Manchester, pretty impressive.
When in a room as fabulous as this well as I already mentioned it’s pretty hard to leave. So after a day spent shopping & having fun in Selfridges, a delicious dinner in the hotel I fell into my bed of clouds & the next morning decided to indulge with breakfast in bed. Sunlight streaming through the floor length windows & the view of Manchester from our bed, with a knock at the door our breakfast of fluffy pancakes, egg & soldiers & English tea were served, it was a pretty perfect morning.
One of the many things that I loved about our time at King Street Townhouse apart from the room was how food orientated it is & for someone who truly enjoys eating & trying new places, the variety & standard at the hotel were impressive.
Apart from my breakfast in bed which was dreamy we dined in ‘King Street Tavern’ the hotels own restaurant that was so unlike your usual hotel restaurant, I still had incredible interior that tied in with the hotel but you would happily dine in there on a Saturday night it has a totally separate vibe to it that we loved, I have already mentioned to my girlfriend we need to head back for cocktails & dinner one evening.
Seated in a red leather booth, with the lighting low, white linen table cloths & sultry music it definitely had a sexy atmosphere that made you relax & enjoy the incredible food. Classic British food but with an edge of fine dining, from a selection of small plates to share for starters to our mains that were filled with flavour & richness, teamed with wine recommended by our waiter it was a delicious meal that sadly, very sadly left no room for dessert but I have no doubt it would have been every inch divine.
After enjoying a delicious dinner, a dream sleep in my suite, waking up to breakfast in bed it was pretty perfect to then be heading off to the hotel’s very own Spa. With the past few months being slightly crazy, the whole new job, temporarily living in London, I think it’s safe to say I was desperately in need of a massage, so wrapped in my cosy bathrobe & slippers I headed up to the treatment rooms for an hour long massage, I loved how I only had to slip on my robe as I finished my tea & head up to the treatment room whilst I left my boyfriend relaxing in the room. But back to the massage, it was a dream. Every knot & ache was rubbed out of me & I was so switched off I was nodding off to sleep just as it was coming to an end. But not to worry as I decided to continue with the relaxation heading to the hotel’s own Sauna room & infinity pool that really is wow, with its amazing views over Manchester, the perfect spot to relax & switch off.
Feeling completely relaxed & simply loving every minute of our stay, it is safe to say we definitely left the best for last. There is a long list of things I love to do & Afternoon Tea is most certainly one of them so dressed up we headed into what felt like a living room/library over a very homely/ cosy home adjacent to the Tavern. With a selection of Twinnings Tea, we sat back & indulged in the delicious finger sandwiches that were some what classic recipes with a few twists thrown in there. Followed by a round of mini, delicate desserts that looked far too pretty & colourful to eat, along with a glass of champagne they were as every inch delicious as they looked. Until finally saving the best til last warm scones, with dollops of clotted cream & jam was certainly the perfect way to end our lovely afternoon & our stay. We were able to truly relax, unwind & indulge whilst enjoying everything that the hotel had to offer,
We were able to truly relax, switch off & unwind, indulge in our beautiful room, whilst enjoying everything that the hotel had to offer. There’s nothing better than checking out & knowing that you have thoroughly enjoyed your visit & planning on when you can stay again. AA x
